ThinkData Announces Partnership with Geotab

TORONTO, ON - April 16, 2019 – ThinkData Works, Inc. (ThinkData), a Toronto-based company that helps businesses connect to external data feeds, has brokered a data partnership with Geotab, a global leader in IoT and connected transportation. Through this partnership, ThinkData will provide access to Geotab’s open, aggregate data that was developed for Geotab customers’ benefit and develop custom-built data solutions, delivered through ThinkData Works’ data marketplace.
Geotab specializes in global positioning system fleet management and vehicle tracking, providing businesses of all sizes with access to an open-platform solution that helps customers better manage their fleets. With over 1.5 million vehicles equipped with Geotab telematics around the world, the company processes more than 30 billion data points every day and provides actionable insights that not only help to improve fleet operations but empower organizations and municipalities in the development of smart cities.
"Geotab has one of the world's largest organically grown vehicle datasets, and we believe that getting aggregate and anonymous data into the right hands will unlock huge value, innovation, and insight,” said Mike Branch, Vice President of Data & Analytics at Geotab. “Partnering with ThinkData helps us build products that will drive the next wave of business intelligence."
Lewis Wynne-Jones, Head of Strategic Partnerships for ThinkData, said, “Geotab has a really progressive perspective on data. Not only have they opened up a lot of aggregate data that serves public interest, they also want to work with partners to build products that can be used to optimize otherwise unwieldy processes.”
The telematics industry is poised for strong global growth. According to a McKinsey report from April 2018, the value pool for the telematics sector could be as large as $750B by 2030. Government mandates in the area, matched with an increasing appetite from consumers for greater connectivity and intelligence, has pushed the industry to introduce an expanding variety of new devices. Geotab’s global network of connected vehicles supply constant rich location, engine and vehicle behaviour data. This data is then aggregated and curated to develop data products that provide insight.
